The interaction between natural instincts which are trying to tell us the right thing to do, and artificial modern stimulation which is hijacking that process. The way drugs work is they hijack the existing pleasure circuits in our brain, when certain chemicals hit those areas, they cause feeling of euphoria and excitement. The same drug affect is when we intake highly concentrated processed foods. The fiber, water, and minerals are removed, so the food is hyper concentrated with sugar and bad fats, which also is added large amounts of salt into the foods. That creates a low-grade addiction, by triggering receptors in the brain to want more of that kind of food. Most foods are calorie rich and nutrient poor, People in today’s world want food that is fast and quick, people tend to choose foods that are salty, fried, and full of calories; these are the foods that are advertised on tv and throughout urban neighborhoods.

When we eat the typical western diet, it damages our endothelial cells causing plaque buildup. ‘LDL is a carrier protein and when that becomes oxidized or damaged; inflammation happens. The damaged LDL turns on the immune system and inflammation happens and it’s that inflammation the builds-up and starts to narrow the arteries. We can keep the LDL from oxidizing by introducing good fats and cutting way down on carbohydrates, according to Dr Perlmutter.
A whole food plant-based diet with good fats stops and reverse the damage to the endothelial cells. We also need to stop thinking of the human body as compartmentalized, everything is connected within our body, if you have a vascular disease; that disease effects everything in the body. The key agency that sets nutritional guidelines is the United States Department of Agriculture, the USDA helps to determine what foods are served to everyone from our soldiers in the field to what is served in our schools. WASHINGTON, Jan. 7, 2016 – Secretary of Health and Human Services Sylvia M. Burwell and Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack today released updated nutritional guidelines that encourage Americans to adopt a series of science-based recommendations to improve how they eat to reduce obesity and prevent chronic diseases like Type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. "Protecting the health of the American public includes empowering them with the tools they need to make healthy choices in their daily lives," (Burwell, 2016).
Eating foods that are local, organic plant-based, good fats, low carbs and sugar helps the body sustain, recover, and promote longevity. Let’s get rid of the problem which is the sicknesses caused by the foods we eat.
